She Checks The Reaction Before She Checks The Mirror
She fixes the neckline for half a second, then looks past the mirror. That is the part people miss. The dress is already fine. She wants to know who saw the fix.
At dinner, it shows up in smaller ways. She shifts in the booth, checks the bar without turning her head, then settles only after someone looks over. The smile comes late, usually hidden behind a sip or a glance at the menu.
If no one notices, the outfit needs adjusting again. If someone does, her hands suddenly leave it alone.
The Outfit Gets Louder When The Night Feels Boring
Same restaurant. Same couple friends. Same parking lot with the bad lighting. Then she comes out wearing the top that normally gets tried on, taken off, and argued with in the mirror.
She calls it random, but the bedroom tells a different story: two outfits on the bed, a lipstick left open, one shoe box dragged from the back of the closet. The plan stayed boring. Her entrance did not.
The fun is in the little drive-by moments. Valet glance. Bartender double take. Hostess pause before she grabs the menus. A dull night gives her more reason to make the outfit do something.
